Winterizing my fiero

Postby Propa McGanda on Sun Nov 22, 2009 3:10 pm

Since winter is here, I decided to winterize my car, but now, something is just not right. I started with draining the radiator and pouring in a prefect 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water. Then, I drained my oil and poured in a prefect 50/50 mixture of oil and antifreeze. After all that, I checked the hoses and went for a spin. I wanted the mixtures to get a good blending together so nothing would freeze while it sat in my garage for the winter. Well, all I can say is, this car runs like it only produces 10hp. The car runs like it's already frozen up and has no power. What gives? Is it because I used GM's red Dexcool coolant?

Whoever told you to mix anti-freeze with your oil at a 50/50 ratio should be strung up in town square at high noon. The correct ratio is 96 ppm H2o with .01% Mobil-4, followed by a pinch of dry graphite lubricant. Don't believe anything you read on the internets. :D You're supposed to shake it up in a five gallon bucket covered in saran wrap and tied off with a rubber band for no less than 45 minutes before ever even thinking of pouring it into your engine.. Then furiously shake for another half-hour. Pour the remnants through at least 12 feet of 1/4 inch fuel line coiled through an old coffee can of dry ice. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!! the dry ice removes any remaining moisture in the mix. Hills Bros. cans are my personal favorite but Maxwell House will do in a bind. You don't want to wuss out a this point and use a funnel. Real men that have furiously shaken a five gallon bucket for well over an hour usually prefer to filter it themselves. Don't think I have to spell that out for you...

So after you relieve yourself into your valve cover you can finally relax. Your car is officially winterized. You can rest easy knowing that your car is safe and you didn't just take some idiots advice and half-ass it.
