Postby Gurt! on Sat Nov 11, 2006 4:22 pm

whell somthing i found out today i was working on replacing my fuel pump and i pulled the sending unit out and looked and it was coverd in a tar like substence come to finde after investigation and a lil chit chat with my mechanic friend over at the local mechanic's shop that the intereor of the gas tank had started disinigrating after dumping all the old fuel that had been in the car for about 5 years..(thanks to the old owner that never decided to fix the car) i looked in the tank to finde big chunks of the old intereor everywhere whell i asked my buddy how mutch itll verry on chost to fix, its about a 200 doller job to have the tank cleaned and re lined but for me  since im a good friend to the mechanic i get a big discount and it will only chost 85 bucks

My dad's Indy was like that, it was sitting for 14 years. The fuel had turned into a flaky sludge and the tank was all but history.

Sounds alot like how mine was. Only it was sitting for around 9 years and on a stone part of the driveway. and it was only an 85 2m4 rather than a gt.

So let me get this straight, there supposed to be some sort of lining in the fiero fuel tank? If so I may have a problem, mines just plain metal inside with some little plastic parts around the back where the filler hose goes in.

yeah inside the fuel tank theres a rubber type cotting that covers the full inside of the tank it prevents metal to gas contact, (this dose not include the plastic parts for some odd reason or it dose and the coating was just eaton away ) the gas accts like a acid after the years and will rust out your tank from the inside out, leading to a fuel pump problem's, you can have the tank cleand but i highley recamended that you go to a radeator shop and have the tank cleaned and recoatid. when i puled my sending unit the old fuel pump was really messed up the rubber hose was melted from the gas in the tank the tank started to carode away and left me with rust and every other fun thing that fuel pumps really cant opperate with

ill haf to get some pictures of the old fuel pump and the inside of the tank

well i know for the most part what that all looks like being i dropped my tank after it sat with gas in it for 9 years. So i'm pretty familiar with the nastyness that occurs in there. my hose was eaten through as well, and my fuel pump strainer was a brownish color and looked pretty clogged.

Gurt!, Im just wondering, how old are you? Your posts are so hard to read, with a distinct lack of periods or basic grammar. Forget capitalization! Your spelling is atrocious. I might be wrong. Maybe your keyboard had some of that tar your attemting to describe dumped on it, or maybe your on drugs. Its quite amazing that I was able to understand even the basic meaning of your posts. Anyways, thanks for a good laugh!! Ive got this bookmarked, and I hope to get a few laughs out of it :)

Good luck with:

Hey mleec321 don't be so heavy, not everyone is perfect and I'm sure you're not either. So you don't need to go around riding anyone else for grammar or punctuation. Not to mention you're new here, and yes have a right to speak your mind. But there is no reason what so ever to try and make fun of others.

Hey Michael chill out man you've been on this site less than a day and made two posts one of which is OK yet it appears that you may have a case of "Too Much Gaming Syndrome" by keeping your middle finger on S instead of D.

mleec321 wrote: "Sis you ever get this finished? I would love to see what it looks like with everything installed. Let me know!!"

Then your second you appear that you may not like someone here and go off on them. #1 that person may not care how they spell or punctuate. #2 English may not be their first language. #3 Education Levels vary across the world. We all can't go to Oregon State. So chill out man We're all supposed to be here for the same reason OUR CARS. Welcome aboard and we hope you enjoy the site.
